This violin is an old instrument created by Master Luthier, Joseph H. Rockwell, Providence,
Rhode Island, in 1929.  It has been in the owners family since it was purchased by the owner’s grandfather as a new instrument.  Sadly, the violin had been neglected for many years and when Fiddlehead’s Music got it, it was in several pieces, albeit still holding together.  The top had
4 major separations and the interior blocks were ready to break loose.  The instrument had to be disassembled with the exception of the neck.  Top and bottom were removed and the interior was reassembled.  The top was repaired with all of the original parts.  When the violin was finally completed and touched up, it was fitted with a set of Thomastik Vision VI100 strings.  The result
is spectacular.  A true “diamond in the rough”.  It is now a shop mascot and not for sale, but can
be visited and observed and possibly even played by those who have an interest in old instruments.

This is a neck replacement on an advanced student level violin.
As you can see in the pictures, the neck has warped downward causing the e string
to buzz and eventually not play at all.  The instrument was originally a very smooth soft
playing violin and after the repair was completely restored to its original glory.

This is an example of a fingerboard replacement performed by Fiddlehead’s Music.
This repair was done on a student level instrument.
